International festival of Street musicians

The International festival of street musicians gathers the best street art performers from around the world. It is a traditional annual event, held early in September and the only manifestation of this kind in Serbia. The most important and diverse artists from all over the world participate in the festival. Of course, important role in the festival is given to local musicians as well, famous local groups, but also bands that are just launching their careers.
During the five days of the Festival, people have the opportunity to see various cultures, to enjoy different music genres, to see unusual instruments and to attend a series of street shows, dances and acrobatic performances. Over the years, the festival has been gradually attracting the attention of local, but also of the international, broader audience. It is well covered by media, and thanks to foreign guests, it is famous even beyond the borders of our country. That is why in 2007, Tourist organization of Serbia, awarded the Festival with the Tourist Flower award, in the „Cultural-tourist manifestation contributing to tourism'' category.
This year’s festival will be held for the 8th time. During the 5 days, and on various sites, it will host more than 300 performers from Serbia, Italy, England, Portugal, Argentina, Germany and France. The festival is determined to keep the spirit of former festivals, however, a few novelties will be introduced. For instance the participants will appear on frontal walls, in trucks, and will be lifted by cranes. Also, for the first time, the audience will be able to enjoy larger-scale, open-space spectacles.
The biggest attraction of this year’s festival will be presented on Friday, the 12th of September, on the main city square. It is the airborne spectacle of the Argentinian Voala group. About a dozen acrobats will dance to tunes of an orchestra, at the same time being raised to the altitude of 50 meters.The Trio Cosaco from Italy, the Cosmic sausages from London and the Portuguese group Oquestrada will also participate.
Various local bands and orchestras will be presented: Zbogom Brus Li, Rich Bitch with Tanja Jovicevic, Sinobusi, Dragoljub Djuricic and drummers, and Stankovic Perkussion Ensemble. Meskarke from Aradac, Bicari from Muzlja and the national Svirala orchestra will remind us of authentic and old music and customs, while the children from Portugal and Novi Sad will show that music knows no boundaries.
These are only a few of many performers... magicians, painters, pupeteers, theatre and film actors, clowns, jugglers and dancers, will participate as well. Novi Sad will be transformed into a genuine stage of picturesque entertainment.
