Bread Festival
World’s first bread festival will take place in Novi Sad from 7 to 9 November.
The venue of the festival is Trg Slobode in Novi Sad. The most renowned and largest milling industries and bakeries from Vojvodina and the region will participate in the festival.
The festival will be open for 3 days from 10 am to 10 pm when the masters of bakery - industries and privatly owned companies will be presenting their products as well as showing the traditional and modern ways of breadmaking. A country breakfast will be organized by a large bakery and, along many tastings for gourmands, the famous Sremski Karlovci form cake will be made. Mulled wine and brandy will be also served.
The visitors will be able to participate in the tasting and contribute to the election of the best Vojvodinian cipovka (a kind of a small loaf), which will also be judged by the experts of Novi Sad Food Technology Institute. The special surprise for all will be „the bread of the whole world“, which will be made in the Laboratory of Novi Sad Food Technology Institute of different types of flour and wheat kernels from all continents, many countries and farmers.
Within the festival there will be 2 exhibitions: the ex-libris exhibition „Bread - Our Heritage“, which includes works around the world, and the exhibition of Russian bakery themed posters from 1895 to 1959. The first exhibition will take place on 7 November 2007 at 7 pm in the town hall and on that occasion awards (among others the Vital award) will be given to the most successful participants of the festival. Russian posters will be exhibited in the UPIDIV Gallery, 3 Ilije Ognjanovica Street on 7 December 2007 at 5 pm. The exhibition will be opened by Mr Sima Matic, the manager of „Zitovojvodina“.
Apart from the exhibitions, two films, which theme is the history of bread in various cultures, will be shown. Stalls, where representatives of bakeries and the industry will present their products and participate in the debates on the bakery related subjects, will be set on Trg Slobode.
Festival and exhibitions organizer is the Balkankult Foundation, the sponsors are: the Executive Council of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, the Town of Novi Sad, the Novi Sad Food Technology Institute, and the main sponsor is Bakery „Fidelinka“.
