The Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones in Belgrade!

Finally, a concert of Rock’n’Roll legends in Belgrade. The concert was a true spectacle. The Rolling Stones were performing before more than 50,000 delighted fans who were singing with the band during the whole concert. Serbia had been waiting for The Rolling Stones since 1970s, that is why the enormous excitement in the audience did not surprise anyone. The fans were aged from 7 to 70 years. Everybody sang and danced. It was an impressive spectacle with the usual and well-known scene setting: a moving bridge that carries the performers into ihe audience, an enormous set with a big screen at its centre, light and fireworks effects. On top of that, there was the band who performed with their well-known moves, having another challenge before them.

They have shown to everyone how professional they were. Mick Jagger’s comments in intermissions were in Serbian language causing erruptions of delight in the audience. Jagger said that he was happy to be in Belgrade, greeted all the guests from the region and made a joke in Serbian on the expense of his back vocal, an r’n’b singer, Lisa Fisher: "Lepa ti je suknja, a ružne sandale" (Your skirt is nice, but the sandals are ugly). The Stones started the concert with "Start me up", made a little hommage to James Brown with the interpretation of hs song "I'll go crazy" and performed many of their biggest hits of which su "Satisfaction", "Honky tonk woman", "Sympathy for the devil", "Paint it black" and "Jumping Jack flash" caused the strongest reaction of fans.
The played "Brown Sugar" from 1971 album "Sticky fingers" as an encore. The concert was finished with a fireworks display about 11.30 pm.

There were nine more musicians on the stage apart from Mick Jagger, Keith Richards Ron Wood and Charlie Watts.
An excellent British band “The Answer“, which is incredibly reminiscent of “Led Zeppelin“ and the famous Serbian band “Elektricni Orgazam“ were performing at the beginning of the concert.

The concert was a part of “A Bigger Bang Tour“ within which The Stones performed in 30 cities.
